Our story

Milly was my best friend

Milly was our dog, but she was my friend. We grew up together. She was a puppy when I was young, and from then on we were best friends. We played together, we watched TV together, we ate together. She was a chocolate Labrador, so she liked to eat!

It didn't matter what the game was. Football, running, any game at all: Milly would play, rain or shine.

And when the playing was done, she would sit with you and enjoy the fire. She snored in her sleep, and her legs twitched as she ran in her dreams.

She was so many things, but most of all she was my friend, and I miss her.

Why Matt & Milly

A photograph keeps how someone looked. It does not keep the snoring, the twitching paws, the way she sat at your feet by the fire, or the way she turned every game into the best game. Those are the things we wanted to hold on to, and they are the things that disappear first.

So we make books that do it. Every Matt & Milly book is written around one friend, the way only the person who loves them remembers them, and painted in watercolour from your own photos. Some are for a friend who is curled up beside you right now. Some are for one you miss.

Whichever yours is, we hope it feels like them.

Our first customer: Munchkin

Munchkin was a tiny bottle-fed kitten who grew up thinking she was special. She sat on the kitchen table and expected to eat there. She found the prawns in the shopping bags and pounced. Her owner, Jackie, told us her stories, and we wrote and painted them.

Jackie told us what was not quite right (a white chest she never had, her brown paws, the other cats' colours) and we changed it until it was her.

"It really is a delight to see her come to life again." Jackie

Every book is written from your memories and painted from your photos. You see a proof before you pay, and you can ask for changes twice. Start a book
