FAQ

Will it really look like them?

That is what the proof is for. We work from your own photos, and you see the cover and several pages before anything is printed. If something is not right, tell us. You can ask for changes twice before the book is final.

How are the story and illustrations made?

We write the story from your answers, using an AI writing assistant to draft it, and a person edits it. The watercolour-style illustrations are created with AI image tools, guided and checked by a person against your photos. We would rather say so plainly. Nothing is printed until you approve it.

What do I need to send?

One to three clear, well-lit photos where the face and body are visible, and four or five sentences: their name and breed, what you do together, what makes them special. A funny habit and a favourite place help a lot.

When do I pay?

Only after you have seen your proof. You start by filling in the short questions form. We write and paint your book, and you see the cover and several pages first. You can ask for changes twice. When you love it, we send you a secure link to pay, and then we print and post it.

Why do you ask me questions?

A photo shows what your friend looked like. Your memories show who they were. The questions are small prompts to bring those memories back: where they slept, what they loved to do, the sounds they made, the habits only they had. We turn those details into the story and the scenes. It is how a book ends up sounding like them and looking like them, instead of being a generic book about a dog, a cat or a horse.

Why are the questions different for different animals?

Because a horse and a hamster have very different lives. We ask a dog's owner about walks and games, a cat's owner about windowsills and routines, and a horse's owner about the field and the stable. You choose their kind of animal first, and we show the questions that fit them.

Do I have to answer every question?

No. Skip any you like, and keep answers short: a few words is fine. The more you tell us, the more it will feel like them, but the part that matters most is your own words about them, in the last box.

What is the "in your own words" box for?

It is where your voice goes. Tell us how you met, what they were like, what you love or miss most. It does not need to be well written. We use your words, and your way of seeing them, to shape the story.

Why do you need a close-up photo?

The face is what makes them recognisable, so a clear close-up, plus one that shows their whole body, gives us the best chance of getting them right. A sharp photo in good light helps more than anything.

I have lost them. Will the questions be hard?

They might be, and that is all right. Answer a little at a time, skip anything that is too much, and come back whenever you are ready. There is no deadline.

Can I add more later?

Yes. When you see your proof, you can tell us what to change or add, up to two rounds, until it feels right.

What happens to my photos?

They are used, with your words, only to make your book. Within 30 days after your book has been delivered, we delete your photos and your original answers. We keep the finished book files for up to three years so that we can reprint your book, unless you ask us to delete them sooner. The details are in our privacy policy.

Can I make a book for a cat, a horse, a rabbit, a rat?

Yes. Any friend you love, whatever they are.

Can I make one for a pet who has died?

Yes, and many of our books are exactly that. Read more here.

Can the book be in another language?

Yes. We can write your book in English, French, or another language you choose: just tell us on the form which one you would like. As always, you see the whole proof before you pay, so you can check the words, and ask us to change them (twice), before anything is printed. If your language is an unusual one, we will tell you honestly if we are not sure we can do it justice.
